Ethanol fireplaces: Open fire – even without a chimney connection
Residue-free burning bio-ethanol enables a cozy fire in almost any place
Frankfurt am Main. – Autumn and winter are the high season for fireplaces and open fireplaces. It is during the dark season that the need for comfort and a cozy atmosphere increases. And even owners of apartments or houses without a fireplace connection can enjoy cozy blazing flames: Ethanol fireplaces are the right choice here.
Liquid bioethanol burns in such devices - without leaving any residue, soot or smoke. This is why no chimney connection is necessary. And this is why anyone can set up these devices with little effort - in a rented apartment, even without special permission from the landlord. The HKI Industrial Association for Home, Heating and Kitchen Technology eV draws attention to this, under whose umbrella a separate specialist department for ethanol devices has been formed.
Of course, the same applies to ethanol: Where something burns, oxygen is consumed. At the same time, when an ethanol burner is operated, carbon dioxide and water vapor are produced - comparable to human breathing. For this reason, it is important to ensure that the room in which the fire of the ethanol fireplace is burning is adequately ventilated. To do this, it is usually sufficient to tilt a window for a while or briefly open the door to an adjoining room or the hallway. This ensures that sufficient fresh air is supplied.
Atmospheric light in the dark season
When buying an ethanol fireplace, the HKI's final advice is that safety should be the deciding factor. It advises against cheap offers or unstable "table fires". On the other hand, tested ethanol fireplaces that comply with DIN standard 4734-1, which has been in force since January 2011, can be set up without hesitation so that you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of a fireplace. So the dark season can come!
